The Marrakech Celtic (#29)

I used koa again for the top of this Marrakech as it fitted the client’s brief on colourisation, and is lighter in weight than other woods. Back and sides are of 5000 year-old bog oak – the unctuous looks really complement the top. The client had asked for a Celtic theme inlay to the ebony fretboard and I chose this simple knot in mother-of-pearl, and added it to the truss rod cover as well as at the 12th fret. Finally, the cover plate was heat-treated.

The Celtic exemplifies how further personalisation like an inlay and heat treatment enhances the uniqueness of the instrument.
